Frequently asked auction questions

Sellers/Consignment

Do you accept consignments? Yes. Nearly 100% of the items we offer at auction are consigned to us by collectors, dealers, beneficiaries and/or executors of an estate.  We are always seeking quality consignments for upcoming auctions. With the variety of auctions we conduct we will work with you and your time table to maximize your results. Our focus is any type, style, maker or line of American Art Pottery, Contemporary or Studio pottery pieces by established artists. We also accept select additional consignments of rare US coins and antiques and decorative arts.

I live outside of Ohio. How do I get items to you? Many are surprised to learn that a majority of our consigned items come from outside the state of Ohio. We offer a nationwide pick-up service for a nominal fee. We will come to your location and expertly pack your items. For smaller collections or individual pieces we recommend shipping the pieces directly to us. If you are unfamiliar with packing pottery for shipment we recommend enlisting the help of a local UPS, Pak Mail or similar store to ensure items arrive safely. Please contact us prior to shipping items as we do not accept unsolicited consignments.

When do I need to get my item(s) to you for your next auction?  In order to adequately market and advertise your consignments, we recommend that you get your items to us as early as possible.  Generally, our deadline is four to six weeks prior to the auction date.  Depending on printing and advertising deadlines, we can occasionally make exceptions but this is not always the case.  Additionally, space in our auctions tends to fill up fast.  Since we limit the number of lots in our auctions, we again recommend that we receive your items as early as possible to ensure inclusion and adequate marketing.

Buyers/Purchases

When is the preview for the auction? Typically we offer a two hour preview prior to the start of the auction. Additionally with a majority of all our auctions a complete inventory of all lots is published online with detailed descriptions, professional-quality photography and guaranteed condition reports.

When will my items ship? Focusing primarily on pottery for over 15 years, we are experts in the care required in handling and shipping fragile items.  The primary goal of our in-house shipping department is that items arrive safely and secondly as economically as safety will allow.  Typically, items are shipped within three weeks of the conclusion of the auction and processing of payment. Please chick here for your shipping options.
